Carlisle Barracks Farmhouse

Department of Defense

Hired by Ritz Construction, Inc., to provide design services including architectural, structural engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, and civil engineering to bring the historic Farmhouse structure and utilities to a safe and usable point where it could be later converted to be used by another agency.
The Carlisle Barracks Farmhouse is a historic Pennsylvania vernacular farmhouse on the Carlisle Barracks installation in Carlisle, PA. The house was built in the 1850s and was actively used as housing historically for the Carlisle Indian School and later as soldiers housing on Carlisle Barracks. As this house is a significant cultural resource, Carlisle Barracks leadership identified it for preservation.
The work performed included repair to the 1st floor structure including beam replacement; repair foundation settlement and cracking; reinstallation of main house interior stair; repointing brick mortar on entire house exterior; repair to exterior brick walls failing mortar joints; installation of new incoming water utilities; installation new incoming electric service; and installation of new incoming low voltage/data service.
